Thunderbird Field II Veterans Memorial Inc., is a non-profit organization 501 (C)(3) aimed at preserving the history and culture of aviation in Scottsdale, providing a tribute to veterans and creating unique educational tools for our children and scholarship opportunities for Arizona students in aviation.
Arizona is home to many of our nation’s brave veterans and we honor them with a military memorial featuring a Stearman PT-17, at Thunderbird Field II, now the Scottsdale Airport.
Thunderbird Field II graduated over 5,500 pilots, many of whom saw military action in Europe and the Pacific. The school was deactivated on October 16, 1944 and is now the Scottsdale Airport.
The Thunderbird Field II Veterans Memorial at the Scottsdale Airport has been made possible by public and corporate donations. Built in 1942 for the sole purpose of training WWII Army Air Corp pilots. The Thunderbird Field II Veterans Memorial will honor those early aviation pioneers and all veterans who have sacrificed so much protecting our freedom.
The Thunderbird Field II Veterans Memorial serves as the gateway to the Scottsdale Airport business center and world-class restaurant. There is no charge to visit the memorial which is open to the public 365 days per year.
