Capt. Jerry Yellin, The Last Fighter Pilot, Flies at Scottsdale

Capt. Jerry Yellin, who flew the last combat mission of WWII over Japan, received his initial flight training and soloed at Thunderbird Field II, now the Scottsdale Airport. His first flight training experience was is a Boeing Stearman PT17 in 1942 in Scottsdale.

In November of 2017 Capt. Yellin again took to the skies over Scottsdale, Arizona, as he took his last flight prior to passing in December at 93 years old, in the same type of aircraft, a Boeing Stearman PT17.
